Where the Sea Meets the Sand

Almost a year ago, I went to a place that my soul could escape. A place where I could be free.

For me, there is no freer place than standing in the ocean. The place that I went to is so much more

than that . The water was cool, but yet warm enough to just sit in. The sun never hid it's face, and

warmed the sand as long as daylight continued.

The coastal breeze whipped through my hair and the

smell of salt water wafted through my senses, energizing my whole being. Succulents abounded

throughout the streets as ground cover, palm trees spread their arms wide as if to welcome you to this paradise.

The people were all friendly and seemed to genuinely care about those around them.

Everyone was very aware, but at the same time, gave other people their space.

Space to breathe. A place to heal. Which was exactly what I needed.

I needed a place where the water

was blue, but ran white with passion, as it hit the shore. A place where the sand feels like home, no

matter where you step. A place where as I absorbed the sunlight, I could absorb the power of the

stillness. This particular little spot of the ocean and it's surrounding community is everything that I

strive to be. Happy, self-sufficient, strong, welcoming, creative, unique, beautiful- inside and out,

peaceful, loving and loveable, ever-changing, always growing, respectful and bursting with life.

  1. Good job! You did a really great job of emphasizing how this place makes you feel and what it means to you. I think you could have gone into a little more detail with the sounds you heard here, just to strengthen that area of the writing. Overall you did really well!

  2. Really nice job on your post Brittany! For your personal narrative, I would suggest adding in what you hear in addition to the other four senses. Your description of what you saw at that place is amazing! It easily painted a picture in my head of where you were. Overall very well done! :)

  3. Thank you! I should have added in the sound of crashing waves but I left it out because the peacefulness of this place kind of just muted out noise, in my mind.

  4. Very nice Britainy! I definitely was able to lean into your description and feel like I could easily be "there"... My favorite line: "I needed a place where the water
was blue, but ran white with passion, as it hit the shore".

  5. Excellent descriptions! I love how you took us there, to that place, and made it your own. You used excellent imagery and really worked with the show vs. tell. Nice post.
