The purpose of this Venn diagram is to illustrate the advantages and disadvantages that I see with living alone, versus with one or more people. One will also find a point that could be made for both sides of the debate. Perhaps it will even shed some light on the topic, should anyone in this class be in the process of making such a decision.
I chose the topic of living alone because in the last 10 years since I've been 'on my own', I've only lived alone for just under a year. I spent 4 years living with the man I was formerly married to, and the rest with roommates and brief spurts with family inbetween. That is, up until last month, when I finally moved into a place of my own again, for the first time in almost 9 years. The first, and only other time that I lived alone, I was rather bored and lonely, so when I later had roommates I enjoyed having the company and shared housework and expenses. However, as I got older, and busier, I found it to be much more irritating and stressful than it was helpful. In my diagram, I outline why.

Hi Britainy,
ReplyDeleteGreat topic, very original and one that I think that many people will be able to relate to. I have also recently found myself living alone, if it was not for being school and having that to focus on out side of work I think that I would have a much more difficult time dealing with it. I hope that you will publish your essay as I would be very interested in reading it.

Thank you Leonard! I have not published it, but can email it to you if you like!
ReplyDeleteI really like that you have a lot of personal experience on this topic. I think it will make your essay a lot easier to write since you have firsthand experience with both living alone and with roommates . I think my favorite 'Pro of Living Alone' is "No one eats your food". :) I think your essay will turn out to be very fun and interesting. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had thought of this topic! All your points are so true, especially the wine runs haha. I have had my own house for a few years and when I decided to go back to school, had a roommate move in. Sure does take some adjustments both good and bad. Congrats on your own place again :) looking forward to your essay.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jen! Good luck with your roommate! :)
DeleteThis is a very interesting topic. Like Marissa said since you have personal experiences with this topic I'm sure the writing will come very easily to you. In this essay are you picking a side or just explaining both of them?
ReplyDeleteI'll be doing both!

ReplyDeleteHaha, you have some great points. I'm looking forward to reading your blog!

DeleteThanks Mya!
DeleteI love this topic! It will be fun to talk about. It's also awesome that you have experience with both living alone and with others. I look forward to reading your essay!:)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI laughed out loud at the first "advantage." My husband was like, "Seriously, no...Has she lived with a 4-year-old who runs around naked regardless of how many people are in the house?" :) I think this is a creative topic and I think it will have a great flow to it, but be sure to keep personal opinions and pronouns at bay and also include strong evidence to support your claims.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha yeah, I was that 4 year old- and depending on the roommates, that never changed. I was really just more concerned with their boyfriends popping over unannounced haha. I'll work on keeping personal pronouns to a minimum but how can I avoid using opinion when the whole piece is based on experience? I've got different scientific studies to back up different points, but I feel that opinion cannot be avoided since it is a creative topic.
