“I want a Wife” Summary
In summary, this article explores the authors personal view of what it means to have a wife, after hearing that her newly divorced friend wanted a new wife. She goes into detail as to why someone would want a wife, and why she herself would also like a wife. She wants a wife that will take care of her children and her home. She wants a wife who will provide good meals and sexual satisfaction. Additionally, she would like the privilege as she sees it, of replacing her wife at any given time, should she not be happy, or just forgo all commitment and responsibility on a whim, if she so desires. The author wrote this essay from the perspective of traditional wifely duties, and the expectations that still hold true today.
“Men - It’s Their Nature” Summary
In summary, this article explores the different examples of re-socializing male children into having more feminine traits. It explains that these efforts are never successful because masculinity is hard-wired into boys from a young age, overall. In addition, the author touches on the idea that ‘maleness’ as she calls it, is ‘back in’, and goes on to give examples of the pros of men being manly, as is their genetic pre-disposition, in most cases.
My Choice for Analysis
I have decided to choose “I Want A Wife” for my analysis essay. My reason is because having been married to someone for years who expected all the things exemplified in the article, as well as being raised to be that sort of wife, I have personal experience from which to draw as I analyze it. And further reflection on the topic, as I am no longer married.

Summaries are both strong and provide the overall connections to the main ideas of each article. Be careful with the analysis to not use too many personal examples in backing up whether you agree or disagree with an author, as that is pure opinion.
ReplyDeleteDo you feel that the responsibilities of a wife are truly the same in this day and age? I cannot speak from experience obviously, but as I view the women in my life (my mother, boss, family-friends) I have to say that the roles have definitely, in my opinion, shifted dramatically; in that women now have the ability now to provide for themselves, and carry out their own respective careers should they choose a more independent lifestyle.
ReplyDeletehey, nice summaries but isn't it true that they should be in your own words i noticed that it had the same kinda tone as "i want a wife" essay.
ReplyDeleteVery nice job on your summaries! My question is very alike to Joshua's, do you still think that the responisiblites are the same now as they were in the 70s when this was written?
ReplyDeleteSalal, the summary was in my own words, I didn't directly quote, I just paraphrased, which is basically what you do with a summary.
ReplyDeleteJoshua & Jennica, I think a lot of the responsibilities are expected to be the same, but are not. If that makes any sense.
